Jefferies has a family law team, headed by Stella Young, that offers a wealth of expertise and experience, You will find us to be supportive, patient and understanding. We offer advice on divorce and financial matters relevant to marriage breakdown, separation, property disputes where people are not married, domestic violence, and children matters such as residence and contact disputes, social services involvement, care proceedings, emergency applications and adoption. We can also advise on pre nuptial agreements. No matter what area of family law you need advise on we have an experienced lawyer with the right expertise to assist you. In all cases we strive to ensure that the advise we give is clear, cost effective, thorough and sensitive to you and your family’s needs.
We'll advise you, where necessary, on the most effective legal action to take and see you through that and we can also help by directing you to other specialist support services and organisations where needed, such as women's shelters, counselling and mediation services.
Because we have a Legal Aid Franchise for all types of work in Family Law if you are on a low income or in receipt of benefits we can assess your financial eligibility for legal aid.
If you are not entitled to legal aid because your income is too great then we can talk to you about arranging a sensible payment plan of your legal fees that you can afford.
In cases where domestic violence is involved, we'll discuss and if appropriate apply for non-molestation and occupation orders, injunctions and matrimonial home rights to protect you and your interests, (injunctions)
The law regarding children is complex and specialised. Jefferies have two experienced, specialist solicitors who are members of the Law Society Children Panel and a further three lawyers who specialise in all aspects relating to the care and welfare of children. We represent parents, other family members and/or children in disputes arising over:
• Contact and residence issues
• Cases brought by the local Authority/Social Services which may result in the removal of children from their parents care
• Adoption and fostering
A conciliatory approach is almost always best when dealing with disputes about children since parental relationship breakdown should not interfere with individual parents relationships with their children.
We believe that the best outcomes for children are achieved through listening, understanding, conciliation and negotiation. However, on occasions, where this approach fails, and then we are able to provide strong and effective representation in Court which will often include advocacy.
We are pleased to be recommended by the Grandparents association.
